Brook PS2 converter not detecting on PS2

Q: I just tried using the adapter on a PS2 with 3 different PS3 controllers and none of them are detected.

A: I had the EXACT same problem when I picked up two of those converters for my PS2 Slim. I had the luck of getting a prompt response from Huang Tim at Brook. In the case of the Slim and other PS2 models, they need to have the converters powered. I was pretty shocked by this, but sure enough, if you use a micro USB (same one you use to charge a PS4 controller) in the USB slots on the front of the PS2 and connect the cable to the converter and switch the converter to XID mode, it works.
